The concept of Business and Human Rights is still evolving and effective legal provisions have yet to be implemented within Indian company law. Companies can be held accountable for certain labour and environmental rights violations although there are no reporting requirements on their social and environmental impacts and no duty on companies to consider the human rights related impacts of their subsidiaries. It is in this context that CSOs, NGOs and people’s movements are campaigning against corporate-related human rights abuses by multinational corporations (MNCs).

This manual contains three case studies on civil society movements against multinational corporations in India.  Each case study includes insight on the specific strategies and campaigning methods employed, and examines their respective successes and failures.
